Cover Song Thursday: Owl Eyes and “Pumped Up Kicks”
Foster The People’s jam “Pumped Up Kicks” is one of the catchier songs to come out in the last five or so years. The tune rocketed Foster The People’s debut album Torches to the top of the US Alternative sales charts (you know, if you care about that type of thing), garnering Foster The People and “Pumped Up Kicks” enough exposure to be covered by other bands, and not just shitty bands. We are talking good bands. Good bands like Owl Eyes.
Owl Eyes’ version of “Pumped Up Kicks” is a little more cutesy than the original. That has a lot to do with the female voice and the awesome use of the glockenspiel. Listening to Owl Eyes singer Brooke Addamo sweetly say that you better run faster than my bullet puts quite a different spin on the rather dark original version of the track. Maybe listen to Owl Eyes’ version this summer, and switch back to Foster The People’s “Pumped Up Kicks” when the leaves start to turn.
