JFK of MSTRKRFT curates new Mortal Kombat soundtrack

Music tends to take a back seat in the video game world. Sure, there will be a specific theme, probably one that arises during battle scenes, that you may hum to yourself while slaying dragons and orcs. I know I sing the Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 theme every time I select my team. But it’s never in the forefront of the game. The new Mortal Kombat game, however, seeks to change that. JFK, of MSTRKRFT and Death From Above 1979, is curating the new soundtrack Mortal Kombat: Songs Inspired By the Warriors which includes some amazing talents from the electronic music world.

“It’s always exciting to have the opportunity to write music for something outside of the traditional means,” said JFK about the project. “Especially when it is for a project like Mortal Kombat that has had such pop cultural significance for so long. It’s a great step forward for the ways that video games can interact with music across unique genres and mediums.” The soundtrack includes new works from Skrillex, Congorock, Felix Cartal, and JFK himself. The new Mortal Kombat comes out April 19 on PS3 and Xbox 360 and the soundtrack releases April 5. Check out the track listing below.
